The Passover Kathleen Maples
On the eve of their deliverance
from Egypt, the Lord instructed Moses to institute the Passover. He laid out the order for this very carefully on how it was
to be done, both in that present time and in future generations. Each household was to take a lamb, and if the household was
to little for the lamb to be eaten, to share it with their neighbor, according to the number of souls. You can find this laid
out in Exo 12. The lamb was to be without blemish, a male of the first year-either a goat or a sheep, whichever the people
could get. At the appropriate time, they were to kill the lamb, in the evening, and take the blood and put it on the side
door posts of the house, and the upper door post. It wasn't put on the threshold of the door either, because it wasn't to
be walked on.
Exo 12:7 And they shall take of the
blood, and strike it
on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.
Now
this is interesting. We know when we are born again by the Spirit of God, we are put under the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ,
which washes our sins away, and cleanses us. Our soul is cleansed and made alive in Christ. But we can cover our minds with
the blood. We can take the authority given us by God through His Word over every thought, every attitude of heart, every spirit
that would hinder us, every carnal piece of mind, flesh, everything that would exalt itself against the knowledge of God and
bind it with the Word of God and cast it down. The blood is a barrier the powers of darkness cannot penetrate. They can't
see through it. They can't get through it. They can't stand sight of the blood of Jesus Christ because they know it is their
defeat. I believe when unclean, evil spirits see the blood, they want to get away from it as quickly as possible. They hate
it. It frightens them and it causes them to recoil. It repels them.
Exo 12:8 And they shall
eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
Exo 12:9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden
at all with water, but roast with
fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.
What
does fire do? It purifies and consumes. They were to eat the flesh in that night before they were to leave Egypt, which is
a type of this world. It was to be roasted with fire, eaten with unleavened bread and with bitter herbs. Unleavened bread
was dough that wasn't allowed to ferment-(the yeast in the bread would cause this) because that changed the bread and caused
it rise or puff up. Leaven is a symbol of corruption, and mixture. Our unleavened bread today is the pure Word of God. It
also contains meat for the mature and milk for the babes. But we need the Holy Ghost to open our understanding and reveal
this Word to us.
Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with
water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize
you with the Holy Ghost, and with
fire:
They
had to eat this with bitter herbs-and that would be somewhat of a reminder of the bitterness of the bondage and misery they
endured in Egypt. Egypt is an illustration of sin, and this world.
Exo 12:9 Eat not of it
raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.
You
are not to water down the Gospel, you are not to water down what the Word of God says says. Our God is a consuming fire, and
if we eat this Book, and trust God to as we present ourselves daily a living sacrifice to Him and for Him, that he will send
the fire-notice the Scripture says here "nor sodden at all with water but roast with fire, his head with his legs, with the
purtenance thereof". The carnal mind has to go. The legs-us walking our own way-that has to stop. The purtenance is the inwards
or the guts of the animal. We have to follow HIM with all our heart and soul..and strength.
Exo 12:11 And thus shall ye eat it;
with your loins girded,
your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD's passover.
In
Biblical times, they wore tunics which fit closely to their bodies, and came to their knees, and over them, they wore long
flowing robes. When they got ready to move out to travel, or work, or fight, they would tie up the robes with a sash of sorts,
or rope, in order to move more freely. These people were getting ready to leave Egypt a free people. They were to eat this
passover meal after they were packed and ready to move out. The phrase "with your loins girded" means be ready to move out,
have your shoes on, be ready to go, with your staff in your hand. The staff was a bar or rod or stick carried in the hand
for support or defense by a person walking, it props up or holds up. (Ours is the Word of God.)
1Pe 1:13 Wherefore gird
up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of
Jesus Christ;
In
these last days, we need to eat this Passover Lamb daily. (1 Cor 5:7) We need to be looking up and ready to leave here, saints.
We need to be eating this Book as much as possible, praying for revelation. I KNOW of a surety that just as sure as I know
my own name that this Word of God in us is what will hold us up, and keep us upright in these last days. If we do not get
in this Book, dig in, get planted, get It hidden in our hearts-and I want It branded on mine, burnt in there so completely
nothing can root It out. If we don't do this, if we neglect the Word of God and prayer, talking to HIM, we will not stand.
We will not make it. We will be weak and when it hits the fan and everything is shaking we'll be like the chaff-blown away
because we will not have anchored ourselves to Him, IN Him. Even the most wicked of sinners in these days can sense something
is coming. Everywhere there are people making comments about disasters, documentaries speculating about "it could happen tomorrow"
"the wrath of God" disaster movies, or shows, and it's because things are happening with a more frightening intensity than
ever, and people are scared and confused because they are blinded to the truth. One talk show host on CNN has a "doomsday"
clock supposedly counting down the time in his studio. There are wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, there is fighting in parts of
the world that to us in America seem distant and unimportant if our head is in the sand or if we are distracted or preoccupied
with ourselves. I don't much care for pictures of Jesus because Israel was instructed not to make any image associated with
Him to worship. But I saw a picture of a huge face portraying the Lord looking down on earth, with a tear running down his
face and such sadness in His eyes. And I wonder, just as Jesus wept over Jerusalem, I believe He weeps over the hardness of
people's hearts today.
Exo 12:12 For I will pass through the
land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods
of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
Exo 12:13 And the blood shall be to
you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
This was a land and people that had enslaved and abused the children of God for centuries. It was steeped in
idolatry and pagan worship. I did a study on the plagues God sent against Egypt one time, and compared the plagues He sent
to the most important idols of the day in Egypt. The plagues God sent were each a personal attack on the idols-for example,
their most popular of the time was RA, their sun god. If you study this, you will see Satan behind it all. Was he not once
called Lucifer, son of the morning? (Isa_14:12) He wants so badly to be worshiped, and he manipulates and deceives
men's minds into creating these little idols, and bowing to them, when he is behind them. But God sends darkness so thick
on the land people can't go out for three days. So much for Ra, folks. God exposed in these plagues the helplessness of their
idols to save and deliver.
Just in the past few weeks the news has degenerated to an all new low of sickening. Babies being butchered,
cut out of their mothers, babies being drowned like rats and thrown in washing machines and dryers. My husband was reading
the paper and got so disgusted with this news. We were in the kitchen later while I was preparing dinner, and he came to the
stove and he began to stir the gravy for me while I was doing something else, and we got to talking about these things. I
told him, if these things are not enough to convince people there is a mad devil out there that hates people, and is on a
rampage, and that people desperately need to get right with God, I don't know what will convince them. The Lord is coming
soon, and people need to get right with Him. My husband just stared at the gravy he was stirring quietly and did not answer.
I know my Lord is working on his heart and just like Moses did not leave any of the children of Israel here, I am not leaving
my family here. I don't have to leave a hoof behind, either. My God is plenty big enough to save them, and I have the promise
of His word to stand on. It doesn't matter what it looks like, it's what HE says that matters.
As I read these Scriptures, I feel both disturbed and a sense of anticipation inside. Think about this..and
I'm not a doomsayer or a prophet or a preacher or anything like that--I am just a woman who adores the Lord and loves reading
His word better than anything. But what I see in it troubles me at times because I love my country-even though she's become
a harlot. I love the ideals and principles she was founded on even though by and large she has forsaken them. Those who are
lost have souls every bit as precious as mine. I remember when I was blind in sin and rebellious against God and wanted nothing
to do with Him because I had a wrong idea of who He was. You think about how many children are molested, how much porn is
exported, sold, and watched in this country, how many children each day are taught in schools they evolved from apes, (and
then society wonders why they behave like animals), there are abortion clinics murdering babies nationwide and laws are being
written to allow young girls to make such decisions without parents' knowledge or consent. God is being pushed out of society,
school, and the courthouse. Abnormal lifestyles are called alternative and are pushed in our face and they demand rights.
Illegal immigrants demand rights that even citizens don't have. This country has lost her bearings and is seriously ill. She's
infected with disease of mixture and poisoned with tolerance for everything except the Right thing. RIGHT has become a dirty
word. But, when you push HIM out who does that open the door for? The attack against the cross of Jesus Christ is unprecedented.
The devil hates the Lord so bad he doesn't even want His name mentioned. He wants to make people doubt and deny. But God is
real, and He loves His people. He's getting ready to send His Son for the Bride.
When things start shaking, and falling apart, when the judgment of God becomes more apparent
on this nation, and He strikes at the idols of this nation, what will you do? When the economy collapses? When the bottom
falls out of the market and people are left scratching their heads wondering what happened, and suddenly work is almost impossible
to find, and everything is in chaos what will you do? Egypt worshiped the sun, the wind, the rain, the earth, the things they
made idols out of God destroyed or used to bring destruction. Folks, I read that generations later, when His own people turned
on Him, and to idolatry, he sent a nation of Babylonians to invade and destroy Jerusalem, and take His people into captivity.
His people. He is no respecter of persons. If He lets America off, he would have to call back Sodom and Gomorrah, and apologize
to them. Think about it. God establishes a pattern in His word of how He deals with people. We need to awake and shake ourselves.
Exo 12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt,
both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
He will execute judgment. Judgment means the decree of the Lord. What He has declared will be. He will
pass sentence and inflict punishment. No one can say they did not know. It has been preached for 2000 years....there are churches
on just about every corner. Here lately, I can almost hear the cry of the Spirit saying COME, time is running out, come while
there is time, the door is getting ready to close!
I was in Walmart one day, and I am always drawn to the book section, and I have noticed the Bible section
has been steadily shrinking the past few years. There is a row of books; at the left side are "religious books about the Lord
written by Christians on how to be better at this, self-improvement, and coping with life" Occasionally, I'll read Beth Moore,
because I believe she's genuine. I've read her book "Jesus, the One and Only" and wept at her insight and love for Him. I
love to read David Wilkerson's books. But you don't find many of these in Walmart. Then in the middle of the aisle, you have
the Bible section. One small section. You might find one or two KJV Bibles but the rest are other translations. Then next
to them is the Harry Potter and fiction section. Across the aisle is the secular writing and fiction novels. I stood there,
watching people browsing the other side of the aisle and my eyes were drawn back to the Word of God, which was on the top
shelf of the middle aisle behind them. I could almost hear the cry of the Spirit calling as a witness from the Word. But people
are so busy, so preoccupied and so blinded they don't hear. They just go after what looks good or what is entertaining to
be able to escape from their troubles by seeking refuge in the latest fiction romance novel, or what have you.
Me and my daughter went walking on the high school track one day, and as I rounded the curve on the last
end of the track, I looked off to the right and above the trees I saw a cross atop a steeple of a nearby church. Again I heard
that cry of the Spirit. People were driving by on the street below, oblivious, going about their business. Children are in
school right down from the church. I could feel a pain in my heart, and I know the Lord wants to reach out to people. He's
trying. We have a whole generation of folks who use ipods and they stuff these things in their ears and God can't talk to
them. They are busy filling their heads with the music they are listening too. Vehicles now have DVD players in them to further
inundate the little ones and prepare their little minds to receive the lies they will be taught in school. It's like people
are empty and trying to fill up on junk constantly, and then they wonder why they aren't satisfied? HE is the Bread of LIFE.
We need to EAT HIS BOOK and look to HIM and LIVE........
What will you do when judgment becomes more obvious? God is a perfect gentleman and will not force Himself
on a nation-or a people but the Bible clearly says all that nations that forget God will be turned into hell...and it's happening
here, folks. When babies aren't even safe in their mothers' womb, something is bad wrong.
Isa 13:17 Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.
Isa 13:18 Their
bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare
children.
This is Isaiah seeing judgment falling on a land that had rejected God. This is describing a time that
has not yet occurred. The word "Babylon" means 'confusion, mixture.' And that is what we have in America today. There is a
mixture of religions, cultures, and we're told that to be a melting pot, where anything and everything goes, ( so long as
Christ is not named or glorified or prayed to,) is good. The result of such mixture is confusion, hostility, prejudice. And
that is what we see in our land today. Turf wars among gangs, drug wars, religious jihad, arrogance, pride, rebellion, sensuality,
covetousness, it's all rampant in this world, and our country. May God have mercy and spare His people and hear a cry come
up from the land of His people, interceding for the lost. Something is coming...and it is closer than we might think. But
as a child of God, we have hope. We have promises that are better than gold. They can't be broken, they can't be changed,
they won't be forgotten and they won't fail.
Exo
12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over
you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
There is a hiding place..in the cleft of the Rock...and
our Rock is Jesus Christ.
