The Poor and Needy Kathleen Maples
Psa 35:10 All my
bones shall say, LORD, who is
like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth
him?
The
Lord knows and He will defend and deliver. That means He will not only preserve, He will recover and rescue the poor and needy
from their adversary.
Psa 37:14
The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.
The
enemy begins to try to cut, to do damage. When the Scripture says 'they have bent their bow' in the original language it means
he's treading down, walking on, shooting his fiery darts to take down the ones who are depressed in their minds, they are
afflicted, humble, or low. They are in need, destitute, subject to oppression and abuse. They are in need of deliverance from
God. Those who are on the right road, they have made righteousness their course for their life, and this wicked one has determined
to try to cut them down. He fires his lies at the minds of the righteous in such a way as to try to weigh them down.
Psa 40:12 For innumerable
evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than
the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.
Psa 40:13 Be pleased,
O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me.
Psa 40:17
But I am
poor and needy; yet the
Lord thinketh upon me: thou art
my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.
This
person is battling so much distress and sorrow, there is so much adversity that has gripped their life. They also are battling
their own sin, hating it, struggling against it, but they are weak, overburdened, and weary. They have become so depressed
in their afflictions they can't even look up to the Lord in prayer. They have lost heart and courage to continue the fight.
Psa 69:33 For the LORD
heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners.
Those
who are in want, they are destitute, He doesn't scorn or disdain. Those who are bound, He doesn't despise them. He hears them
when they pray. He doesn't refuse their prayer.
Psa 70:5 But I
am poor and needy: make
haste unto me, O God: thou art
my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying.
Who
else do we need when HE is our help and deliverer?
Psa 72:4 He shall judge
the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.
Psa 72:5 They shall
fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.
Psa 72:6 He shall
come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.
Now
this is interesting. A carnal mind could look at that, and get confused. How can He save them if He judges them? That word
judge as it's used here means to vindicate, defend, and avenge. Hallelujah!!! You have to look at the context in which it's
used. It also means to govern and punish. But the oppressor is the one who gets the punishment here. The Word promises He
shall save the children of the needy. He will open wide the way and rescue them from the oppression of the enemy. He said
He'd crush the one who presses upon the minds and hearts of the people, and afflicts them with his poisonous lies and threats.
When
they see how He deals with the oppressor, they will fear God. That which has been cut down, He is going to descend like rain
and water and refresh them. Oh, that speaks to me of the precious Holy Spirit. We have such great need of Him. I KNOW I do.
Psa 72:12 For he
shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper.
Psa 72:13
He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy.
Psa 72:14 He shall redeem
their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight.
Wow.
If you can relate to any of the previous conditions listed, that describe the poor and needy among us, praise God, it sure
sounds like help is on the way. Cry out to God for the deliverance that is promised here. The Word says when the poor and
needy cry out, GOD HEARS and will deliver! He shall spare them, He'll save them, and redeem their soul from the lies of the
devil that weigh so heavy on them.
Psa 113:7
He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;
Psa 113:8 That
he may set him with princes,
even with the princes
of his people.
Psa 113:9 He maketh
the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the
LORD.
Now
here, the word for poor means dangling, or barely hanging on, weak or thin, lean. He raises them up out of the dust, and out
of the rubbish or filth they are plagued with. He wants to raise them up to set with the nobles. He takes those who are barren,
who have not born fruit, who are dry and causes them to settle down, establishes them, and blesses them with fruit, new life,
and brings joy to their life. This applies spiritually or physically. It could be someone who keeps the house of the Lord,
and encourages the young ones in His house, or it could mean an actual woman who is blessed with children previously not had.
Either way, God is able!
Isa 41:17 When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.
Jer 22:16 He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him:
was not this to know
me? saith the LORD.
